Keeping Your Landscape Healthy During Extreme Heat

Extreme heat can be hard on any commercial landscape, especially in our Gulf Coast and Texas climate. High temperatures, intense sun, and dry periods can quickly stress turf, shrubs, seasonal color, and irrigation systems.

The key to keeping a property looking clean and healthy is consistency. Proper mowing height is important because cutting grass too short can weaken the turf and cause it to burn faster. During extreme heat, turf should be maintained at a healthy height to help protect the roots and retain moisture.

Irrigation also plays a major role. Watering deeply and less frequently is usually better than short, shallow watering. Irrigation systems should be checked regularly for broken heads, clogged nozzles, poor coverage, and runoff. Even one dry zone can create noticeable brown areas across a property.

Mulch is another simple but effective way to protect plant beds. A fresh layer of mulch helps hold moisture, regulate soil temperature, reduce weeds, and improve the overall appearance of the landscape.

Plants should also be monitored closely during heat waves. Wilting, yellowing, leaf drop, and browning edges are all signs of stress. Catching these problems early can help prevent long-term damage.

A pristine landscape in extreme heat does not happen by accident. It takes proper maintenance, good irrigation practices, and regular attention to detail. With the right care, your commercial property can continue to look professional, healthy, and well-maintained even during the hottest months of the year.
